We realize that Milan, Italy is not on everyone's 'must do' list when they tour around Italy-but in my opinion, that is a shame. Milan is truly a magnificent, sophisticated (as our travel agent described it) Italian delight. Here are some of the highlights from our long weekend getaway...
Duomo
This cathedral took over 500 years to build. There are over 3000 statues on this church (more than any other building in the world), almost 100 gargoyles, and over 130 spirals. We went up and explored the roof, and were just in awe of the architecture.
Duomo at night...
Window shopping for the fashion capital- although, the hubs might have won on more window shopping on this trip ;)
Teatro alla Scalla (Opera House)
This is a world renown opera house-but you must book in advance to get tickets :-)
Castello Sforzesco
S. Maria delle Grazie e Cenacolo
This is the church that the last supper picture is painted on. It spans the entire wall on one side of the church. Magnificent! Unfortunately, I did not plan according and we did not get tickets to go inside and see this masterpiece.
We took a day trip up to LAKE COMO!!!! People-this lakes needs to me a 'must' on your Italian getaway. Picture this...a gorgeous lake, with iconic Italian villages that are sprinkled across the hills that jut out of the lake and your view...THE Italian Alps, and in our case, they were snow capped Italian Alps. Simply put- PERFECTION! It is my new dream retirement location. We enjoyed our lake cruise. Bellagio was a beautiful little village that we stopped in and enjoyed (George Clooney owns a house here!).
Other fun times in Milan...
