Switzerland

Geneva

We started our lovely Switzerland Fall break in Geneva. Geneva is in the French speaking part of Switzerland and a very lovely city. In the pictures below you will notice Old Town Geneva and New Town Geneva. Old Town has the gorgeous St Peter's Cathedral and Bastions park where we had a fabulous time playing. We love playing on playgrounds in every country that we travel to and we adore how different, yet the same and always fun that they are!!!! Leaving the heart of Old Town and heading toward New Town you will notice we have pictures of the Town Hall (where the Red Cross was originated in 1864)and The Arsenal. As you keep walk you come to the English Garden and see the famous flower clock, you also get a nice view of the Jet d'Eau. This fountain (a trademark of the city) throws water over 450 feet into the air about the lake, and pumps 132 gallons of water per second into the air. It was beautiful over Lake Geneva- WOW!

Then you will notice several several more pictures of Geneva. In fact, you will notice the United Nations. I love the pictures of the back of our girlie's heads with the UN in front of them- I just imagine them trying to solve and help resolve diplomatic issues way beyond their years.

Montreux

Our next stop was on the north side of Lake Geneva in the breathtaking city of Montreux. Just outside of Montreux is the Chateau do Chilean which is regarded as the best preserved medieval castle in Europe. Montreux is also known for their Jazz Festival. It is a gorgeous city nestled in between the unbelievable mountains and the idyllic lake.

Chocolate Train Trip

While we were visit Montreux we took a Train Tour up to a cheese factory and then to a chocolate factory. I am sure that by the end of the day- we were all done with chocolate! We had an wonderful time and felt like royalty in the gorgeous old timey train. We very much enjoyed our lunch break as well, and ate some delicious dishes- Jeremy even got the rack of fondue- meaning a slab of cheese that continually heats under a heater and you scrap that top bits off that melt and eat with your meal- delicious! Our KK got their delicious mac and cheese- which was quite a treat, since we rarely ever eat that. It was a wonderful day full of amazing scenery, delicious food and the perfect company!

Interlaken

From Montreux we headed to Interlaken. This is an absolutely gorgeous area within central Switzerland. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate as much as we would had liked for it to- as it did rain and snow a bit while we were there, not allowing us to ski- but all in all- we had a fab time! You will notice from our pictures that we took a lake tour- and had the sun been out, I think you would had been able to really appreciate the color of the turquoise water in the pictures even more so. It was as if, it were a painting of the most gorgeous mountains that had just freshly been topped of with snow (you might notice the snow line in some of the pics) but with this unbelievably beautiful lake in the middle.

Jungfraujoch

While in Interlaken we headed up to the top of Europe at Jungfraujoch. Getting up to Junggraujoch is quite an engineering marvel as there is literally a tunnel that has been dug out of mountain for the train to pass through so it can operate year round. Once at the top you can see for miles (as long as there is not a white out), and you also get views of Europe's largest glacier, you can go through and view the ice palace,play in the snow, and normally there are numerous winter sports, but the winds were high while we were visiting and one moment it would be the perfect day then turn to a complete white out 10 minutes later. We did not let that stop us, and we still have a fabulous time!

Lucern

Our next stop on our trip through Switzerland was Luzern (or Lucern). An absolute must see and stay while in Switzerland, Lucern has the Chapel bridge that it is known for, Old City (no cars allowed), the city wall that we thorough enjoyed climbing on and enjoying the views, the Lions Monument, and so much more!

Mt Titlis
While staying in Lucern we decided to head up to the top of Mt Titlis. Many Swiss consider this the "true alps"- all we can say was that it was absolutely breathtaking! We played in the snow- slide down the snow, took the chair lift to see the views, walked across the suspended bridge, at lunch with incredible view- took the only rotating cable car and just had a time of a lifetime.

Zurich

Our final stop on our Swiss Trip was Zurich. In Zurich (as you will notice the Swiss German speaking area) we enjoyed Old Town, Bahnhofstrasse, Grossmunster church (starting place of the Protestant Reformation in Zurich)-has the two large towers that you can climb to the top, and Zurich's town center. St. Peter's church in Zurich is known to have the largest clock-face of all European churches. We also stopped in at the famous for restaurant dinner.
